A long week of Slop!

The have not’s this week, are not too fond of the treats America picked for them to eat along in the Big Brother house this week.  Porsche, Kalia and Danielle are stuck eating hard-boiled eggs and jalapeno’s of a few varieties with slop and protein drinks as a nutritional support.  Can’t have the house guests completely useless from hunger lying around sleeping all day.   In the first few days of suffrage the girls got somewhat into their turn without too much complaining.

Dani spends some time looking over the approved have not foods list.

Dani studied the list, and created a batter for the jalapeno’s and pan-fried them to a golden brown.  She did not make a ton of them, but she did sift the oatmeal chunks out of the slop mix, to make the coating.

Dani frying up some slop dipped jalapeno

Porsche  has been cooking a good amount of special treats for the house to eat, and I was hoping for her to get more creative with the slop items, and not just the goodies and late night treats made of chocolate!

Porsche also checks out the list of approved BB have not condiments

While everyone has been checking out the list.  I realized that back when the first set of have-nots were dinning on seaweed and sardines, Mayonnaise was not a part of the list but BB has the right to change things around, and I think they did because the girls are using it with their eggs!!!

Shelly’s Taco Pie

  • Nachos
  • Meat
  • Beans
  • Cheese

Pre brown hamburger with spices listed you can also use a taco flavoring packet or kit found in most taco isles, but I like to use my own fresh spices!  Layer all ingredients in a shallow baking dish and after a 20 min bake and the cheese is bubbly.  Enjoy!

Kalia chomps on a coffee-cicle

Kalia showed some genius this week, and made some coffee flavored Popsicle this week.  A cute little frozen concoction made of coffee, milk and slop frozen overnight in the freezer!   These frozen treats could be made with many flavors like cinnamon, vanilla, or even a nice black anise!

Tune in Thursday for the LIVE eviction and then the FAST and game changing DOUBLE EVICTION!

Week 6 – Have Not’s have Heat

The Sad faces of the have-nots for week 6 in the Big Brother House

The votes are in and as of 12:30 pm Big Brother time Kalia, Porsche and Danielle are the official have-nots for the week.  Jeff, as reigning HOH was charged with choosing the Have Nots, and he picked the three people who have been on slop the least amount of time while in the house.

Dani and Kalia setting up and tucking in for the long have not week

Along with the slop the have not’s have to sleep in the have not bed room. Which if you have not tuned in to see it, is a slab topped with a very thin mattress padding.  They are given scratchy army style blankets and teeny pillows you might find on an airplane.  After three weeks of being on the top, crashing  to the bottom can hurt a lot.

America’s choice for the have not’s is ……… (drum-roll) Hard boiled eggs and jalapeno’s!!!

Porsche checking out the array of hard boiled eggs, and jalapeno's

The have-nots quickly hoped out loud that the eggs could be eaten or cooked any way desired, but hard-boiled is the only allowable  way to consume them.  The jalapeno’s were presented to the house-guests fresh and whole, sliced in jars and in a smaller red variety.

Porsche got in the spirit right away, and started thinking of things like egg salad, and deviled eggs.  Sadly salad dressing and or mayonnaise is not part of the approved condiments (unless they have made some changes since sardines and seaweed) so it will have to be made a different way!  Porsche has been a little creative chef over the past few weeks and said  she might try to stuff them with slop or attempt frosting covered jalapeno’s, so we will have to see what the house-guests come up with and what I can come up with recipe-wise for these common but oddly combined ingredients!

Stay tuned for reports on what the house guests create with their treats for the week, and I’ll also have reports on other creations made in the Big Brother kitchen!

Have and Have Not Vote!

The call for America to vote again on the have/have not food choice for the Big Brother contestants has come and quickly gone!  With the excitement in the air about the HOH competition and Brenchel’s reunion and the departure of Brendon on last nights live show, I think they forgot to mention much about the actual vote which was CBS Big Brother website.

The choices were pretty harsh this week and I’d hate to have suffer as a have not this week.  But if America goes with dates and durian (which I have a feeling they might this week) it’s going to take quite a bit of thought and research to come up with anything that would be edible for most.  But I accept the challenge and will come up with creative things to do with slop, available condiments and the choice of America!

Week 5 – No Vote Yet, but trouble lurks in the kitchen

So far this week in the Big Brother 13 kitchen all is pretty well.  BB has seemingly given the house guests the week off of slop, and America’s Choice foods, but something else lurks in the kitchen at the Big Brother house.

BB13 August 13,12:08 AM ( Cam 1/2) - Porshe spiking the jar of muscle milk with Benifiber

Porche, Dani and Kalia were all aware of the fact that Porche spiked the Muscle Milk with a medicinal product called Benifiber.  This product can be hazardous to your health if the directions are not followed properly, an overdose is accidentally ingested and even if ingredients are given to someone without knowledge of allergy.

Photo-capture Series of Porche tampering, and Kalia and Dani watching on

Porche, it is a game but somethings are just too much.  I can even stand the lying and backstabbing, its all part of the charm.  But doing something that is just flat-out mean , makes you my:

Note: Big Brother made Porche remove the tampered with Muscle Milk and throw it away.  I think she should have suffered some kind of punishment for food tampering.  It is a felony.

Week 4 – America’s Choice Catfish and Coconut

So sad for Jordon, who was feeling pretty blue today after the have not competition

The have/have not competition took place today, and Jordon, Jeff , Rachel and Shelly are the have-nots for the week.  Some pretty hot tempers, and conflicts flaring in the house in real BB time.  It’s Saturday night, and in the last day and a half the Big Brother live 24/7 feeds I have observed 3 of the lady house guests sobbing.  Poor Jordon will need to get super creative in her second week in a row on slop and America’s Choice.  In the vote for America’s choice the winner is:

Catfish and Coconut

I'm tasty and nutritious, and brrrrrr.. I'm pretty cold!

The live feeds did show us the table for more than a few seconds.  The coconuts and Fish were easily identifiably the choice of the people.  Again, poor Jordon does not like fish, and now adds that coconut is not one of her favorites.

Jeff and Jordon talking about catfish and coconut

Jeff immediately dashed into action, and made some catfish that he marinated in some hot sauce, lemon ( of which Porche inquired if lemon was on the list of acceptable condiments)  Jeff read the list and I guess it was acceptable, because it was not mentioned by BB as a violation.  So we add lemon to the list of acceptable condiments.  Check out my 1st post to see that list of acceptable condiments!  Jeff also made a coconut slop in addition to a bit of toasted coconut.

Jeff's pan-fried catfish in hot sauce spices and lemon

The haves seem to be enjoying and getting creative with the coconut, and had some fun learning how to crack into a coconut without a hammer.  Adam found success in smashing it in a baggy against the HOH stairs.  Jeff and Adam tried a bit, and quickly spit it out in the garbage can because it was “a bad tasting coconut”.

Today one of the have’s this week, Adam suggested and attempted his Almond Joy/Mounds creations using chocolate coconut, and almonds, chocolate and coconut.  Porche reported that she made Muscle Milk Mousse.

More reports soon, as the official showing of the have not competition on Sunday’s  show on CBS at 8:00.  Be sure to remember to keep voting for which player will play to re-enter the game!

Jeff mentioned that he would like a Asian version of Catfish, so here is my recipe for sweet and sloppy catfish!

Jeff getting creative in the Big Brother Kitchen! How about something Asian!

Sweet and Sloppy Catfish

  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of Salsa (cleaned and drained)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • salt and ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 2 filets of catfish

Drudge fish in slop to coat entire fish thickly. Place on sheet-pans, cover and chill at least 30 minutes before cooking as directed.

For sweet and sour sauce: Mix red wine vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, olive oil, soy sauce, water and salsa in a small bowl

In skillet, heat oil of your choice.  Fry fish until crispy (don’t over cook!).  When fish in finished, pour out excess used oil (be careful it will be HOT!) Put pan back on heat and add sweet and sour mixture to skillet to de-glaze.  Bring to a bubble and let simmer for a minute or two.

Coat fish by drizzling hot sweet and sour over crispy fish.

Rachel’s Grilled Catfish El Salsa Slop

Last night Rachel put a dish together that she said was delicious!  I’m not sure about how good it is, but it looked interesting and after eating slop for quite some time, I’ll bet it tasted good! Rachel also said it tasted like an Italian Dinner but I’ll bet no Italian dinner was ever full of hot sauce!

Rachel’s Grilled Catfish El Salsa Slop

  • Fresh Catfish
  • Hot Sauce
  • Red Pepper
  • Oil
  • Slop (Pre-moistened)

Marinade catfish filets in Hot sauce, olive oil, honey, red pepper, and oil.  Drudge (coat) catfish in slop powder.  Fry in skillet or on Grill using tinfoil until fish is tender. While grilling, sprinkle with red pepper. When fish is ready, let sit for a few minutes.  Cover fish with warmed salsa and add hot sauce to taste if you need a bit more zing!

Rachel also made some toasted sugar coated coconut, and is currently marinating that concoction for dinner tonight!  Stay tuned for more creative slop creations in the Big Brother 13 house!

When your cooking something from nothing, make it good!!!!

Brendon and Rachel’s Big Brother Wedding

I had to mention this, although there was not much reception food.  Last night Rachel and Brendon exchanged vows in the first Big Brother Wedding.  It was very sweet, and its obvious that they do really have deep feelings for each other.   I have not been a fan of Brenchel over the past seasons of Big Brother, but I love love, and its such a beautiful thing to get a break from the game, and experience something kind sweet and loving.

I also have to compliment Shelly and her creativity in making the “white trash” garbage bag wedding dress.  It was actually quite nice, and Brendon’s Mock Tux was also something so creative and special.

Here is a quick “mock” page of photos.

I have to admit that I loved that Jordon caught the bouquet and Jeff the ace bandage garter belt.

If I would have had more time, I would have figured out a Slop Cake, or maybe even Slopatizers for the event.

Sardines and Seaweed Surprise!

Well surprise and a good deal of yucks were the word around the house since the announcement Sunday that America chose to give the house guests sardines and seaweed for there have not food supplement for the week.

Here is a go at a simple sardine and seaweed salad.  Flavors are balanced and make the sardines somewhat palatable.  I think this would be better with a bit of cheese, but that’s not on the list!

The Wet Seaweed in the Big Brother 13 HouseSardine and Seaweed Surprise

  • 1 tin sardines (drained)
  • 2 Tbsp Mayo
  • 2 Tbsp of strained salsa (rinse it until the sauce is gone)
  • 1/4 cup of seaweed minced (dried or wet)
  • 1 tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 table spoons Relish
  • 2 Tbsp minced fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon Mustard
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

In a bowl place sardines from one tin of plain sardines.  Remove heads and tails if you desire ( I would totally desire!) and mince the remaining meat into smaller bits.  Mix in strained salsa, minced seaweed and set aside.  Mix together mayo, vinegar, relish, fresh parsley, and Dijon mustard.  Pour dressing over sardine salad and mix, do not over dress.  Serve in a small bowl and along side of some Porche’s Spicy Slop Chip.

Adam the Big Brother 13 Carmel Apple Elf! Looking good there Adam!

Adam The Big Brother Elf of the Week!  Hey Adam, why have we not seen you put popcorn on your ice cream like Donna did!  Or make Mega Burgers like from the Peach Pit!

What the Have’s Are Eating!

For the Have’s, it was Brendon’s Three some caramel apples that he made with Rachel and Porche last night.  Brendon started making a caramel sauce again (see yesterdays Heart Attack Popcorn).

Brendon took charge of the caramel, but Rachel saved it when she suggested adding a bit of milk which made it creamier all around, and everyone commented on its smell after it was added.

Rachel rolling caramel on apples in the Big Brother house

Rachel chipped in by stabbing the apples and rolling them in the caramel and then the nuts.  Yummy!  Pictured below on the left is Porsche’s caramel slop, which could be consumed because it is all made of the caramel ingredients which were all OK for have-nots!

The finished product, not great looking, but should taste pretty good! We’re gonna keep up with what the big  brother have and have nots are cooking, creating, and doing in the Brother Kitchen!

Heart Attack Popcorn – Jeff’s Favorite!

Porche Making her Kitchen Culinary Creations!

I think I must be  inspiring the house guests by osmosis!  The house has increased its creativity and begun to create yummy things this week.  This could be also partially attributable to a 30 hour lock down, and the residents did not see the light of day for a good long time.  Lock-downs are one of the hardships that many would be contestants would surely go through to have the chance at $500,000.

Porche exclaimed on feed one, “Inspired by sardines and seaweed, who’d a thunk it” after having seen and dug through the special foods given to this weeks have not’s.  The house guests started throwing out ideas, and came up with quite a few good things!  Porche cooked several yummylicious treats for the “haves” last night starting with what Jeff called “Heart attack popcorn” but she called it…

“Our own little trail mix”

The recipe is basically pop a bag of Microwave popcorn, covered in a caramel sauce, drizzled in chocolate and sprinkled with M&M candies.

Jeff of BB 13 Labeled this Heart Attack Popcorn. Porche said it's Big Brother's own little trail mix.

Making caramel topping can be a bit difficult but it’s not something that I would consider too hard to give a try.  The culinary wizards used oil in their concoction and I would not recommend trying (Yuck!)

My Version of Heart Attack Popcorn

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3/4 cups of chocolate chips (optional)
  • Any kind of candy or nuts (optional)
  • Pop Microwave pop corn and put in metal bowl (a large deep pan works too!), and prepare a tin foil covered cookie sheet for later.
  • Mix brown sugar, corn syrup, butter and salt in a heavy 2-quart saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil over medium heat.  Boil 5 minutes without stirring (get it to 325 degrees on a candy thermometer).
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in baking soda and vanilla; mix well.
  • As quickly as possible pour syrup over popcorn, stirring carefully and to coat evenly.
  • Sprinkle any candies or nuts (get creative!) you like over the popcorn. Then pour on melted chocolate (Chocolate chips melted for a minute or so in the microwave)
  • Then put that pan of yumminess in refrigerator for about 20 minutes.

More Cooking and interesting tids and bits from the live feeds at the Big Brother house!  With so many new things and creativity being shown every day, soon they will be able to say they can create…

Something from nothing, and make it good!
