Slop du Update! The Amazing Race Premier Party Hollywood

This gallery contains 22 photos.

Hello Folks!  I had the pleasure of attending the CBS hit show The Amazing Race premier party on Monday February 19th, at The Parlor in Hollywood, California.  Of course being the Big Brother fan I am, I was thrilled that Brendon and Rachel had been selected to run the race this year, and what a … Continue reading

And the Winner IS RACHEL REILLY!

Rachel Reilly The Winner of Big Brother 13!!!

The Big Brother 13th season came to an end last night as Rachel Reilly was named the winner of  the 500,000 dollar prize.  The votes were cast by the 7 jury members and 4 out of 7 of them decided that Rachel was most deserving of the cash prize.  Big Brother house-guests Dani, Kalia and Adam voted for second place winner Porsche Briggs, who takes home the $50,000 cash 2nd place prize.

$50,000 dollar 2nd place prize for Porsche on Big Brother 13

I have to say Porsche, while I liked the amount of cooking you did in the house, (was great to help the a first time blogger keep up), to win the game you must talk to people and interact with them socially and show them your personalty.   If you did, and your personality only goes so far, get some more and then use it to interact.

Thanks to all the House-guests for some great fun summer entertainment, and thanks to my readers for coming back again and again.  I’ll be here next year (or maybe cooking up something in the house! wink, wink! ) blogging again about how the Big Brother house-guests deal with being have nots’, eating slop, and America’s Choices!

Till Then!!!

Brendon and Rachel’s Big Brother Wedding

I had to mention this, although there was not much reception food.  Last night Rachel and Brendon exchanged vows in the first Big Brother Wedding.  It was very sweet, and its obvious that they do really have deep feelings for each other.   I have not been a fan of Brenchel over the past seasons of Big Brother, but I love love, and its such a beautiful thing to get a break from the game, and experience something kind sweet and loving.

I also have to compliment Shelly and her creativity in making the “white trash” garbage bag wedding dress.  It was actually quite nice, and Brendon’s Mock Tux was also something so creative and special.

Here is a quick “mock” page of photos.

I have to admit that I loved that Jordon caught the bouquet and Jeff the ace bandage garter belt.

If I would have had more time, I would have figured out a Slop Cake, or maybe even Slopatizers for the event.

Sardines and Seaweed Surprise!

Well surprise and a good deal of yucks were the word around the house since the announcement Sunday that America chose to give the house guests sardines and seaweed for there have not food supplement for the week.

Here is a go at a simple sardine and seaweed salad.  Flavors are balanced and make the sardines somewhat palatable.  I think this would be better with a bit of cheese, but that’s not on the list!

The Wet Seaweed in the Big Brother 13 HouseSardine and Seaweed Surprise

Ingredients

  • 1 tin sardines (drained)
  • 2 Tbsp Mayo
  • 2 Tbsp of strained salsa (rinse it until the sauce is gone)
  • 1/4 cup of seaweed minced (dried or wet)
  • 1 tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 table spoons Relish
  • 2 Tbsp minced fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon Mustard
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions

In a bowl place sardines from one tin of plain sardines.  Remove heads and tails if you desire ( I would totally desire!) and mince the remaining meat into smaller bits.  Mix in strained salsa, minced seaweed and set aside.  Mix together mayo, vinegar, relish, fresh parsley, and Dijon mustard.  Pour dressing over sardine salad and mix, do not over dress.  Serve in a small bowl and along side of some Porche’s Spicy Slop Chip.

Adam the Big Brother 13 Carmel Apple Elf! Looking good there Adam!

Adam The Big Brother Elf of the Week!  Hey Adam, why have we not seen you put popcorn on your ice cream like Donna did!  Or make Mega Burgers like from the Peach Pit!

What the Have’s Are Eating!

For the Have’s, it was Brendon’s Three some caramel apples that he made with Rachel and Porche last night.  Brendon started making a caramel sauce again (see yesterdays Heart Attack Popcorn).

Brendon took charge of the caramel, but Rachel saved it when she suggested adding a bit of milk which made it creamier all around, and everyone commented on its smell after it was added.

Rachel rolling caramel on apples in the Big Brother house

Rachel chipped in by stabbing the apples and rolling them in the caramel and then the nuts.  Yummy!  Pictured below on the left is Porsche’s caramel slop, which could be consumed because it is all made of the caramel ingredients which were all OK for have-nots!

The finished product, not great looking, but should taste pretty good! We’re gonna keep up with what the big  brother have and have nots are cooking, creating, and doing in the Brother Kitchen!

Heart Attack Popcorn – Jeff’s Favorite!

Porche Making her Kitchen Culinary Creations!

I think I must be  inspiring the house guests by osmosis!  The house has increased its creativity and begun to create yummy things this week.  This could be also partially attributable to a 30 hour lock down, and the residents did not see the light of day for a good long time.  Lock-downs are one of the hardships that many would be contestants would surely go through to have the chance at $500,000.

Porche exclaimed on feed one, “Inspired by sardines and seaweed, who’d a thunk it” after having seen and dug through the special foods given to this weeks have not’s.  The house guests started throwing out ideas, and came up with quite a few good things!  Porche cooked several yummylicious treats for the “haves” last night starting with what Jeff called “Heart attack popcorn” but she called it…

“Our own little trail mix”

The recipe is basically pop a bag of Microwave popcorn, covered in a caramel sauce, drizzled in chocolate and sprinkled with M&M candies.

Jeff of BB 13 Labeled this Heart Attack Popcorn. Porche said it's Big Brother's own little trail mix.

Making caramel topping can be a bit difficult but it’s not something that I would consider too hard to give a try.  The culinary wizards used oil in their concoction and I would not recommend trying (Yuck!)

My Version of Heart Attack Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3/4 cups of chocolate chips (optional)
  • Any kind of candy or nuts (optional)
 Directions
  • Pop Microwave pop corn and put in metal bowl (a large deep pan works too!), and prepare a tin foil covered cookie sheet for later.
  • Mix brown sugar, corn syrup, butter and salt in a heavy 2-quart saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil over medium heat.  Boil 5 minutes without stirring (get it to 325 degrees on a candy thermometer).
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in baking soda and vanilla; mix well.
  • As quickly as possible pour syrup over popcorn, stirring carefully and to coat evenly.
  • Sprinkle any candies or nuts (get creative!) you like over the popcorn. Then pour on melted chocolate (Chocolate chips melted for a minute or so in the microwave)
  • Then put that pan of yumminess in refrigerator for about 20 minutes.

More Cooking and interesting tids and bits from the live feeds at the Big Brother house!  With so many new things and creativity being shown every day, soon they will be able to say they can create…

Something from nothing, and make it good!

Week 3 – America’s Choice Sardines and Seaweed

It’s week three in the Big Brother house and the house guests found out  that they would be treated to Sardines and Seaweed by Americas vote in addition to the regular Big Brother slop, spices and condiments they are allowed to eat when given the have-not designation.

First looks on the live feeds of the sardine and Seaweed treats!

The Have nots this week were decided as part of the HOH contest held live on Thursdays show and continued and won on the live feeds after the show.  This weeks have-nots are:  Jordon, Lawon and Brendon.  Rachel had two days left on her two-week slop penalty she accepted in a previous power-of-veto competition.  But as we go to press, that punishment will have expired.

The sardines and seaweed had a mixed reception.  Jordon does not like fish, and is not a fan of the treat, she resigned herself to eating slop for the week.  Lawon was excited and said he eats sardines quite a lot.  Brendon claimed to have been a sushi chef in the past, and thought out-loud that he might be able to create some sort of Japanese Cuisine.  We’ll see Brendon.. we’ll see.

“Inspired by sardines and seaweed, who’d a thunk it”.

Adam, Rachel, Brendon, Porche pick through the sardines and seaweed

The house guests were given a variety of ocean fare of the sardine kind.  They talked about Whole Sardines from Whole Foods, smoked, in tomato sauce, honey mustard, boneless and sweet & sour flavored sardines.  Fresh and in cans, there should be every-type of sardine available in that house.

The seaweed was delivered in the storage room, on a high shelf, in multiple green packages. The identified flavors were, spicy, sweet and sour, dried sheets and several varieties that came cold and in plastic refrigerated containers.

Shelly's Slop Oatmeal and Brendon's Sardines in Tomato Sauce

A cooking frenzy ensued in the house in the evening hours, and I managed to catch quite a few of the recipes that

Shelly, Brendon, Porche and Rachel were cooking up last night.

To begin with house guest Shelly, the  mother of Josie (she misses that kid something fierce and speaks of her often!) and eldest house guest this season.  Shelly has been feeding the house her slop pancakes all season so far.  This is what I could catch of her recipe

Shelly’s Slop Pancakes ( Voted the Best by the House)

Ingredients

  • slop
  • cinnamon
  • white sugar
  • milk
  • cocoa powder
  • vegetable oil
  • baking soda

Brendon’s Slop Pancakes (2nd Prize!)

  • cinnamon
  • white sugar
  • milk
  • vanilla
  • olive oil

Porche’s Spicy Slop Chips (made to spread the sardine salad on!)

  • slop mixture

  • parsley
  • cayenne pepper
  • cumin
  • olive oil

These came out really crispy and everyone complimented her on them!

Up Next, my take on what to make with the have not foods, sardines and seaweed.

It’s always my goal to make something from nothing, and don’t forget to make it good!

The Have Nots of the Week

Dom now evicted from the BB13 house, by a vote of 7-1

Last night was filled with excitement as Dominick was the 3rd house guest evicted from the Big Brother 13 house by a vote of 7-1.  The new head of household was decided on  mock-up skis and mountain in the back yard of the Big Brother house.

Big Brother HOH competition - Big Brother Mountain Skiers

Dani was able to hold out for her downhill victory after making a deal with the house labeled floater Kalia in the 1st endurance competition of the season.

Dani & Kalia the last two on Big Brother Mountain, Kalia cutting a deal to stay safe

House guests who were among the first four out were blessed or cursed with the contents of a “snowball” containing a surprise.  Adams luck ran out and he has to wear an elf-tard for the rest of the week.   Lawon, Jordon and Brendon picked curses and are slop eaters this week.  Jeff was the lucky house guest, and grabbed the 10,000 dollar cash prize.

The final moments of the HOH competition with the losers looking down and out

I’m not sure standing on ski’s for an hour an a half could really have been labeled as endurance and I long for the times of night long competitions of Big Brother seasons past where the challenges were unpredictable and actually required stamina.  I am not saying that Big Brother is rigged, but BB is certainly at work and continues to manipulate and deliver on the promise to expect the unexpected.

America’s vote on which food the have not’s will have added to their slop & allowed condiments will be revealed soon on Live Feeds and I’ll be coming up with creative ways to make things with them as well as reporting in on things the house-guests come up with using their creativity!
