SLop Du Jour Meets Big Brother 16!!!

sloplogo

Another season of Big Brother is underway, and for the 16th season contestants for the summers biggest reality game show/social experiment have entered the house in a two show premiere.  Without delay the house-guests are facing their first week on slop.

What is slop, you ask?   Slop is somewhat of an oatmeal like powdered protein product that house-guests have described as “metal protein powder”.

In Big Brother tradition, slop is a food substitute given to the house-guests who are declared the weeks suffers in the Have/Have Not competition each week (this may change this season! Stay tuned for updates).

America’s vote has in past seasons offered two food items that have not’s are allowed to eat along with the slop however, we have not seen any America’s Choice as of today.  Along with this slop mixture and the two voter items the have not’s may also consume condiments from a list provided by big brother.

Here is the list:

balsamic vinegar, olive oil, red wine vinegar, rice vinegar, vegetable oil, hot sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, relish, salsa, soy sauce, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, black pepper, garlic salt, crushed red pepper, salt, vanilla, basil, bay leaves, cinnamon, leaf oregano, paprika, parsley, rosemary, brown sugar, artificial sweetener, powdered creamers, white sugar, tea and protein powder.

The 16 House guests that will attempt to win $500,000 on Big Brother 16

Here at Slop Du Jour, I will attempt to bring you news and happenings about “What’s cooking in the BB House”, bring you some of the recipes of the HG’s attempts to make things with slop, along with news of all the regular things happening in the house and in the game.  We’ll do some fun photos and some mash-up’s and screen-caps where I can!

What’s Cooking – Racism, Stereotypes and Nastiness

I love Big Brother.  I have for a long time and have been a live feed watcher for a long time.   15 seasons in fact… However, I have had more than I can stand this week, and I’m not bringing you my normal SlopDuNews.  I am taking the time to bring you clips of the atrocities that are happening in the BB house this season.

I have tried to chalk it up to the usual, house-guests you love to hate, but it’s more than that this year.  It’s becoming more and more acceptable and the norm of what happens in this game.  Julie Chen has expressed her dissatisfaction in the comments of some of the houseguest, and ignored others.  It seems CBS has used this disgusting behavior to boost ratings, and only address with the TV show viewers a very small amount of the comments that have actually been said.

These are two video’s of clips (of which I am not the creator, I am linking to them) which as a live feed watcher I know are not taken out of context, they disgust me and should disgust you.

I am not naming names, I will let the clips speak for themselves.  Please watch them, and decide for yourself if you will choose to sit and watch silently, ignore it or simply bear witness to these things.

I do not think any “game” is worth this happening or being allowed  and I will not sit by and watch it happen without commentary. .

All views stated are my own, and I make no reference to any employers of mine, past or present and my true hope is that this behavior will have consequences for those who have perpetrated it.

Please click the link for each video, they will open in a separate window.

Have Not Hell, but Its a Dandy!

B3VCap-2013-07-15_10-59-31-890

As we say goodbye to the latest evicted house-guest Jeremy, we here at SlopDuJour are happy to say goodbye to the only holder of the never-not pass.

It is a big week in the Big Brother 15 house, and with this weeks “twist” (America’s MVP nomination) the house has been full of accusations, speculations, a bit of deep thought and the really wild idea that Elissa nominated herself for eviction.  Most of all,  paranoia galore!  There is something about being in that house that seems to make a logical person throw away all centered thought and think everyone is coming after you.  The house guests have been taking guesses about what the twist could be, and really Andy and Spencer have both described exactly what it is, however everyone else poo-poo’s it as if it were the furthest from possibility.  Ah the Big Brother house, finally feeling a bit more like previous seasons.

The have nots this week were picked in a “All you can eat” Fro-Yo competition shown on Sunday’s show, and a sigh of disbelief came over Jessie, Andy, Spencer and Candice who lost the competition and are now all being subjected once again to the have not beds, cold showers, America’s choice foods and the dreaded Big Brother Slop!

B3VCap-2013-07-19_15-53-02-934

America is being pretty kind in their voting, and Big Brother gave the have-not’s macaroni and mangoes to add to the list of things they have to fill there empty bellies.  Many types of Mango including, fresh, dried and even fruit roll ups were given to break up the hardship of being a have not.

B3VCap-2013-07-20_16-18-27-530

Amanda and Elissa have really been the only people attempting to get creative with their fare and they are not even have nots this week!  But kindness to others can be key in this game of strategy, so they have continued to make the Have Not Muffins from the chocolate protein powder they are allowed, and Slop Balls ( a concoction of slop bound with BBQ sauce, Guacamole or Salsa) which Helen made back in week one.

Amanda attempted to make fettuccine alfredo in a have and have not version for the house last night.  Cheese being a key ingredient in alfredo sauce, the have not batch was more of a thickened milk sauce, which did not get very thick, but Jesse did say was tasty.  The Have variety also brought some yum to the house, but if she had followed some cooking tips from SlopDuJour she would have been much happier with the result.  Here is a recipe for a simple alfredo sauce that you can try at home!

Have Not’s eat Guac and Lots of Grapefruit

B3VCap-2013-07-16_14-49-17-234

The have-nots have sure been eating lots and lots of grapefruits and guacamole this week in the Big Brother house.  Amanda, McCrae, Jessie and Judd have been suffering through on the same slop dishes and sure did not seem to have the energy to get creative with new dishes this week and someone threw away all the slop Amanda made and had stored in the refrigerator!

B3VCap-2013-07-14_16-12-08-920

I myself have even found it difficult to come up with any amazing ideas with this week’s America’s choice foods (common America, I need something to work with here!) so this week I came up with some beverages (Amanda was complaining about nothing to drink for have-nots) that can be created with just have-not items.  The house guests were wishing for a soda machine (the machine that can make pop from flavored water) as a luxury!  Maybe a hint of something to come!

Hot Vanilla Cocktail

Ingredients

  •  14 oz milk
  • 6 Tbsp. powdered creamer
  • 1 Tsp. ground vanilla bean or Vanilla Extract
  • 5 Tbsp. sugar or equivalent sugar substitute
  • Ground cinnamon to Taste

Directions

In a heavy saucepan, combine the ingredients and warm over low heat. When small bubbles appear around the sides of the pan, remove it from the heat and let the mixture sit at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes. Place the pan back on the stove and rewarm the mixture, whisking it briefly to redistribute the skin that forms on the milk’s surface. Pour the vanilla milk into two 8-ounce mugs and top with a sprinkling of cinnamon. Drink hot.

B3VCap-2013-07-14_16-16-53-431

Grapefruit Tea

Ingredients

  •  2 cups ruby-red grapefruit juice (squeezed from 2 grapefruits)
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick

 Directions

In a medium pot, combine juice, honey, cinnamon and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil over high heat; strain and discard solids. Serve with a grapefruit segment or strip of zest.

These drinks would certainly bring calories, and some filler for empty have not stomachs in the BB house!  So next weeks have-nots will hopefully have something amazing that we and they can create a whole lots of amazing eats!  Here is a peek into the BB house 3 or so hours before the live show.. Amanda is cooking up a HUGE portion of fried slop with Salsa for she and McCrae to eat for before the live show!  Tune in!!!!

Thanks for reading SlopDuJour!

Ta Ta Nick, Hello Grapefruit and Guac

Nick Uhas Age: 28 From: New York City Occupation: Entrepreneur

Nick Uhas Age: 28 From: New York City Occupation: Entrepreneur

Nick was evicted in a surprising (for him) and classic Big Brother blindside on Thursdays show. So as we say goodbye to Nick, his kinda sorta showmance with Gina Marie will have to be put on hold.  Nick has said in post show interviews that he will have to wait until he and she can reunite, reportedly for a date to see a monster truck rally, until he knows more about where their relationship might head.

The Have not competition was shown on the Sunday night broadcast after Nick’s eviction and Gina Marie’s on air flip out because he left.  Gina Marie and Nick had a kind of relationship going on in the house.  At times it seem more like a stalker-mance but we will let that be decided at the end of the show by Nick and his actions towards Gina Marie.

The have-nots have been picked in the “No use crying over split milk” competition and the losing team made up of Judd, Amanda, McCrae and Jessie will have to suffer the loss and eat slop, take cold showers only, and sleep in the have not airplane room and eat the result of the America’s Choice vote.  There was no reveal of the foods picked in the vote on Sunday nights show, so drum roll please!  America’s choice is:

Havenotwinnerwk3

With all of the craziness in the house there has not been a ton of concentration on eating, and more on just surviving.  Amanda has thought of  a few things to make  like Slop-A-Moley and chocolate milk pops (it seems chocolate milk has been added to the have not condiments, but in limited quantities) for the have-nots to snack on.

Stay tuned for recipes for Slop Balls, and some cool refreshing drinks that can be made with Have-Not Foods!

In the meanwhile, hurry over to http://www.cbs.com/shows/big_brother/americas-vote/ and vote on next weeks America’s Choice!

A Rough Week and Have Not Muffins (Brownie Style!)

i

The cast of Big Brother 15 just before they entered the house.

There has sure been a good deal of controversy in the house this past week, and we at SlopDuJour feel that the behavior of the house guests who have been featured on the news, TMZ and on the Big Brother live feeds has been a nasty look at how people can be vicious, cruel, vile and inhumane.  We do not condone or support racism or racist behaviors and attitudes and that all people should be treated with as much kindness as possible.  I personally love BB and I have since season 1 and hope the persons who continue to spew racist garbage are evicted swiftly and they alone suffer the consequences of their actions at face value.

ON with the MUFFINS!

B3VCap-2013-07-06_17-05-59-942

Described by the houseguest Elissa on this summers sizzling hot show Big Brother as, “The healthiest muffins you can ever eat” this summers have-nots are already getting creative and concocting their own tasty and much-needed meal plan.  Have Not muffins were created earlier in the season by Amanda and have now blossomed into a full-fledged and very healthy food source for those who are doomed to suffer another week worth of Airplane seat beds, slop and america’s choice.

The Muffins don’t even have slop in them, but are made instead with the whey protein powder they are allowed to have.  Here is how they are doing it!

B3VCap-2013-07-06_15-08-40-922

Elissa removes the muffins from the tins.

Have Not Muffins

Ingredients

  • 3 Scoops of Chocolate Whey Protein Powder (any flavor could be used!)
  • 4-6 Tablespoons of Powdered Sugar
  • 2-5 Tablespoons of Soy Milk
  • 1 Tablespoon of Vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon of oil (may be omitted)

B3VCap-2013-07-06_15-22-33-627Mix all ingredients until batter has a wet brownie type consistency.  Add whey Protein Powder if mixture is not thick enough, soy milk if it is too thick. Pour well mixed batter into buttered or lined mini or regular size muffin tins.  Fill each about 3/4 the way full.  Bake in oven at 350 degrees until a toothpick can be inserted and then extracted clean (approx 10-15 minutes).

Let cool slightly

B3VCap-2013-07-06_15-09-48-979Icing

  • Powdered Sugar
  • Soy Milk
  • Vanilla

Icing can be flavored (the first time the HG’s made this, they used cinnamon flavoring) or can be just mixed and used to frost or dip.

I made these muffins this morning and they are pretty good!  An excellent source of protein and not the worst thing I have ever eaten!

Till next time… enjoy your SlopDuJour!

On Sunday Nights show, the first vote of a whole season of America’s Vote was announced!  Yes, America you too can now vote on what two foods (in addition to the approved list of Have not condiments) will be allowed to be eaten by the losers of the Have/Have not competition held each week.

In case you missed it, the approved list straight from the BB house is in earlier posts.. please check the archives to see what is available to those who are have not’s for the week.  Chocolate Milk is a new item this year.  People in the house are talking (and it’s not all nice!) about how the people who are have’s this week, have drunk the sweet and chocolate treat all up,  leaving none for the have not’s even when it is known they are so limited in things they can cook and eat with.

Big Brother Summer of Slop

A first look at the Big Brother 15 Have / Have Not room

Another exciting season of Big Brother has begun, and without delay the house-guests are facing their first week on slop.  What is slop, you ask?  Slop is a food substitute given to the house-guests who do not win the Have/Have Not competition each week.  It is somewhat of an oatmeal like powdered protein product that house-guests have described as “metal protein powder”.
