Have Not Hell, but Its a Dandy!

As we say goodbye to the latest evicted house-guest Jeremy, we here at SlopDuJour are happy to say goodbye to the only holder of the never-not pass.

It is a big week in the Big Brother 15 house, and with this weeks “twist” (America’s MVP nomination) the house has been full of accusations, speculations, a bit of deep thought and the really wild idea that Elissa nominated herself for eviction.  Most of all,  paranoia galore!  There is something about being in that house that seems to make a logical person throw away all centered thought and think everyone is coming after you.  The house guests have been taking guesses about what the twist could be, and really Andy and Spencer have both described exactly what it is, however everyone else poo-poo’s it as if it were the furthest from possibility.  Ah the Big Brother house, finally feeling a bit more like previous seasons.

The have nots this week were picked in a “All you can eat” Fro-Yo competition shown on Sunday’s show, and a sigh of disbelief came over Jessie, Andy, Spencer and Candice who lost the competition and are now all being subjected once again to the have not beds, cold showers, America’s choice foods and the dreaded Big Brother Slop!

America is being pretty kind in their voting, and Big Brother gave the have-not’s macaroni and mangoes to add to the list of things they have to fill there empty bellies.  Many types of Mango including, fresh, dried and even fruit roll ups were given to break up the hardship of being a have not.

Amanda and Elissa have really been the only people attempting to get creative with their fare and they are not even have nots this week!  But kindness to others can be key in this game of strategy, so they have continued to make the Have Not Muffins from the chocolate protein powder they are allowed, and Slop Balls ( a concoction of slop bound with BBQ sauce, Guacamole or Salsa) which Helen made back in week one.

Amanda attempted to make fettuccine alfredo in a have and have not version for the house last night.  Cheese being a key ingredient in alfredo sauce, the have not batch was more of a thickened milk sauce, which did not get very thick, but Jesse did say was tasty.  The Have variety also brought some yum to the house, but if she had followed some cooking tips from SlopDuJour she would have been much happier with the result.  Here is a recipe for a simple alfredo sauce that you can try at home!

Alfredo Sauce (For the Have’s)

  • 3 Tablespoons Flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Tsp. Pepper
  • 1/4 Tsp. Cayenne Pepper
  • 3 Cups Milk
  • 2 Tsp Salt (add more to taste)
  • 1/2 cup of Parmesan Cheese

Melt butter in pan, add flour and whisk until butter has a bit of the smell of fresh bread

Add milk about 1/2 cup at a time while whisking

Whisk until smooth after each addition

When all milk is added, slowly add cheese and spices and melt completely (DO NOT LET BOIL!)  Remove from heat, the sauce will thicken as it cools.

Cook your pasta as directed on box, and drain.  Mix pasta with sauce and Voila!  You have a great little meal, that is if your a have!

For the have not’s today, We’re going to make  something that for sure has all of the allowed ingredients.

Mango Pasta Salad

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano, ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 3/4 teaspoon Garlic Salt (This is the only salt you should add!)

B3VCap-2013-07-06_19-01-11-916Salad Ingredients

  • 4 Cups Macaroni (measure uncooked)
  • 1 Diced  Fresh Mango
  • 1 Cup Salsa Rinsed and Drained (just run water over it to take out the red sauce and leave solids in bowl)
  • 1/4 cup sliced olives (black or green)

Mix all ingredients for Sauce and set aside.  Cook pasta and drain.  Cool by running cold water over it.  When cool, add mango, rinsed salsa and sliced olives and pre-prepared sauce.  Chill for at least an hour! Enjoy!

So stay tuned..and keep voting in the america’s choice vote which usually opens after the Live eviction shows, and keep coming back to see what’s cooking in the Big Brother 15 house!

Double Eviction and the Carrot and the chef have left the building!

A look at the Final 7

An explosive show on Thursday began with the gathering of the house-guests, and the announcement of the show’s surprise double eviction ( the second of the season!)  as it stood with Ian as reigning  Head of Household his nominations were made and Joe and Frank sat on the block waiting for their fate.

Frank and Joe sit on the block for the first of two eviction in the second double eviction week on Big Brother 14.

When Julie Chen announced to the house guests that this week would also be a double eviction I was surprised not to see more scrambling for last second votes.  I think it was really because Frank was under the impression that he was safe this week, due to Dan’s very effective plan of ruthless lying.  There is some great controversy growing over this and Dan’s choice of “swears” on his Bible.  Dan has made it quite clear in his publicly aired Diary Room sessions that he is willing to tell lies in order to support his family and would continue to do so for the win.  As in all seasons of Big Brother, each player makes choices based on their own belief systems, but really should consider how each “move” or “lie” could affect them after the game.  I always hope that viewers will understand the spirit of the game, and when it’s over, will remember that each and every house-guest is a player in a game and half the fun is the drama.

When all was said and all votes were cast, Frank was evicted from the house, by a vote of 3-1 and left only hugging his ally Jenn who had cast the one vote for him to remain.  Frank will join, Britney and Ashley in the Jury house in sequester for the finale show.  I personally was not sad to see Frank go.  His 9 lives were well used up and his live feed personality was quite different from the one edited for the CBS shows.

After the eviction, the house-guests immediately sprang into action for the double eviction.  For the HOH competition, everyone moved into the back yard and took their positions for a quiz type competition.  The contest is a “quiz” type and Julie reads quotes from evicted HGs and the players need to identify who said it.  Whoever gets the most right in seven questions wins the contest and the coveted HOH.  After a series of questions, there is a three-way tie with Jenn, Dan and Danielle, so it goes to a tie-breaker question and DAN is declared the winner!

Its time for the nominations and before Dan even has a chance to name the HG’, Joe takes a seat in the nomination chair.  This somewhat breaks the tension then in a somewhat shocking maneuver, Dan officially nominates Joe and Ian for eviction, marking the first time Ian has been nominated all season.  This also marked the fifth time Joe has been nominated.

The POV is one of the most powerful weapons in the big brother house

Next is the power of veto competition, and to guarantee safety, the HG’s must work a plastic type shark fin through a massive maze, remove it and run back to the button hit it to win.  It’s a close race, except for Shane who never seems to get out of the starting gate with his fin.  Ian quickly moves his fin through the maze and while the others are still struggling Ian smacks his button for the win!

Ian uses the power of veto and saves himself, of course. Dan nominates Danielle which is a shock to her, but she takes Dan at his word (which is not golden, as we know) and only over-reacts slightly.   Obviously Dan wants Joe out, and he was worried that if he nominated Jenn, everyone would’ve voted her out. Dan is playing with fire right now, but this is probably the smartest move to get his way because there’s NO WAY Shane and Jenn will vote out Danielle. But still, Dan literally just nominated two people he has Final 2 deals with. The gasp from the audience when he did it was priceless.

JOE IS EVICTED 3-0 and its the first unanimous vote of the season.  Joe is a very good sport, as he’s the most excited person walking out the door all season.  Joe talks with Julie and  blames the “showmance” for him getting evicted, making jokes about how he couldn’t offer Shane the same things Danielle did.  He also claims his “strategy” was to lose competitions on purpose.  We say goodbye to Joe with a hearty THANK YOU for all the cooking and recipe sharing he did with the live feed watchers and Slop Du Jour this year!

Goodbye Chef Joe!!! Good Luck with MadLoveCooking and you will always have a friend at Slop Du Jour!

Draw Something…a Funeral and a Resurrection

The Power of veto competition players are drawn and Ian is picked to be the host.

The veto players are picked, and the battle lines drawn.

It’s veto competition time, and the contest is called “Draw Something”.  This competition is a contest of wills and visual puzzle solving.  These puzzles once solved allowed the house-guests to perform a punishment, receive points or decline and be eliminated from the game.  Frank takes on points and punishments as he takes a dip in an avocado bath, accepts a chum bath once an hour for 24 hours, and wears a carrot costume for a week!  Frank also accepts 1 week of non-eligibility for HOH (this would mean two weeks for Frank because his is not eligible in the next HOH competition.

A chum bath looks as bad as it sounds.

Punishment Paint is hurled onto Danielle, and she is in the race.  Dan eats some Big Brother “food” (somewhat gross things) and is a close second in the scoring. After Dan accepts 24 hours of solitary dance party confinement, the scores are very close.

Danielle gets pelted with paint, that later gave her a throat irritation!

Frank mumbles “summer” to Britney and gets disqualified for breaking the rule of not giving away aid to other house guests.  Frank’s punishments stand with no chance of him gaining the Power of Veto.

Frank mumbles “summer” to Brit, and gets DQ’d

Jenn is victorious (by default) and takes slop for the rest of the summer for the win and the power of veto.

Jenn wins the Power of Veto

Dan is overcome with emotion at the loss, and quickly enters his solitary punishment.

Dan is victorious, but sad for having to be so ruthless ( not!)

Britney and Danielle enjoy their time when they are chained together for 24 hours as a punishment of the veto competition.

Dani and Brit, chained by the ankle for 24 hours

After Dan’s 24 hour solitary confinement, he fakes a sort of panic attack and gains some sympathy from the house-guests in the form of concern for his health.   Dan requests a house meeting, saying that he has some things to say.  He addresses the house as if he has remorse, and says good things about everyone, and many tears are shed.  Danielle is the last person to be addressed by Dan, and he says she is dead to him in this game.  Danielle reacts very poorly, and is devastated by Dan’s remarks. He later clues her in on the plan.. she is not amused, but hopeful.

House meetings always end up with big changes in the house!

Dan requests a meeting with Frank during his “funeral” and comes clean with him and tells him it’s a plan to save him and make new alliances. Frank buys in, and joins Dan in a final 2 deal with a handshake.

Dan comes clean with Frank, and makes a final 2 deal with a handshake, a swear on the bible, and his wedding ring.

During the Power of Veto ceremony, Ian first chooses not to use his golden power-ball veto.  Jenn then steps up and to amazed, astonished and open-mouthed house-guests, takes Dan off the block and replaces him with Brittney.

Brit and Dani are on the block.. much to Brit’s dismay!

Who will be eliminated on the Live Show tonight!  Be sure to tune in to CBS!!!

Mike and Ashley Evicted, New HOH is Crowned

Boogie and Jenn sit on the block, waiting for the eviction.. the first of two!

It was an amazing and action packed night in the Big Brother 14 house last night.  The Live show on CBS packed a double eviction into one hour-long episode of drama!  As the show began Mike “Boogie” sat on the block with Jenn who had been named as a replacement for power player Frank who once again had won The Power of Veto and removed himself from the chopping block.  It was Jenn’s first time on the block and she showed her anger towards her nominator Shane, and everyone else who she assumed wanted her on the block.  She was naturally a complete and total pawn, and had no chance of being evicted in the first round.  The final votes were cast quickly, and Boogie was evicted by a vote of 6-2 (note: you could just see the shock on his face as he heard the number of votes, because it did not add up with what he expected) with Joe, Ian, Brittney, Dan Shane and Danielle casting the votes to evict.

The before or after is one of Ian’s best chances at HOH!

The HOH competition, which was a before or after trivia questions about things that have gone on in the house since day 1, was then played by all the remaining house-guests except for the outgoing head of household Shane.  It was a tight competition but in the end the expected winner was Ian for the HOH win!  Ian quickly had a few conversations, asked for a few promises and nominated Frank and Ashley for eviction.

Next the  Power of Veto competition was held, and it was a physical competition.  Each house-guest was given a lane with a ball pit full of little yellow balls filling it to the top. Buried in each of these pits were two clovers.  Each contestant was to run to the pit, retrieve the clovers (one at a time) and bring them back to the starting line.  After the clovers were found and delivered, the power of veto replica was to be retrieved and brought back to the goal line and the button pressed.  Frank pulled this win out to save himself from eviction.

The House guests all put there best foot forward to win the POV!

At this time Ian (HOH) had to name a replacement nominee.  Ashley was placed on the block along side Joe.  Ashley really seemed pretty confused and possibly drugged ( she has been taking pain pills and talking about it since day 1 in the house) and gave a pretty jumbled plea to stay in the house.  Joe was breathing quite heavily from either excitement or exhaustion and gave his speech in a non-verbal, gestures manner.  It was quite clear, effective and to the point and by a vote of 5-1 Ashley was evicted from the Big Brother House.

The 2nd  HOH competition of the night was held in the house a couple of hours after the live show and the results are astonishing!  So be sure to stay tuned for what happens and how it will affect the house!

Tune in to CBS on Sunday for the show, check your local listings for times!

Have nots get a week off! MadLoveCooking with Joe

The big brother contestants have it smooth and easy this week, or do they?  There was no have not competition this week so everyone has had a chance to rebuild their stamina and get creative in the kitchen.  Joe is the man (check out his facebook @MadloveCooking), and created a couple of treats for the other house guests over the last few weeks and because everyone raved so much, we’re going to bring you those recipes here!

Joe has made a couple of Avocado Cheesecakes and from what I hear, this is an amazing dish that has lots of flavor and good healthy proteins!

Photos of Joe creating the Avocado Cheesecake

Avocado Cheesecake

  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 16 ounces of cream cheese
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 medium-sized avocados
  • 2 teaspoons of lime zest
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees. Put almonds into chopper and pulse until finely chopped. Add graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter, and pulse until just blended. Press crumb mixture into the bottom of a 9 inch spring form pan. Set aside.

Before starting your cream cheese mixture, allow all ingredients to reach room temperature. Letting the cream cheese, eggs, and sour cream reach room temperature will help the cheesecake from cracking. In a mixer combine cream cheese and sugar, and blend until smooth. Add eggs one at a time until they are incorporated into the batter.

Place avocados into a food processor, and pulse until they are smooth, add lime zest, lime juice and sour cream, and pulse until you have a uniform mixture, add the avocado mixture into the cream cheese, and mix well. Pour into spring form pan. Bake for 45 minutes, check to see if the cheesecake is set, it should still have a small jiggle in the middle when you bump the pan.

Remove from oven, and cool completely on a rack. Chill overnight in the refrigerator.

Other than a good deal of Fruit Loops, and boxed calories the house guests have been eating Joe’s cooking. Oh Joe… gotta wash those hands!  One of the favorites is Chips and guacamole.  While I did not catch Franks recipe on the show (gotta love BB fish!) I do have a fantastic recipe for it, and I’ll share it with you!

RobinPickles Yummy Guacamole

  • 3 Avocados
  • 1/2 cup Minced Cilantro
  • Juice of 1/2 Fresh Lime
  • 2 to 4 Diced Small Roma Tomatoes
  • 2 cloves of Minced Garlic
  • 1/4 cup Minced Onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Take all ingredients and place in a bowl unmixed.  Using two large spoons, begin slowly mixing by making a cutting type motion with both spoons (as if you were using a knife and fork to cut meat) and keep smashing the avocados with the spoons, keep it moving until a nice green “paste” has formed and all ingredients seem to be mixed well.  Chill for about an hour and serve with white corn tortilla chips.  Happy Crunching!

Stay Tuned for more action from the BB house.  Things on the feeds are hot hot hot, and this weeks live show on Wednesday at 8:00PM on CBS!

Wil has Been Evicted!

Wil leaves the house by a vote of 6-2

Last night was eviction night in the Big Brother house.  Wil, a 24-year-old marketing consultant from Kentucky, was evicted from the house in a 6-2 vote after being placed on the chopping block by fellow house-guest Frank Eudy, the season’s fifth Head of Household.

Joe gives his all in the competition, but maybe Joe’s best asset is cooking.

The jam-packed live Thursday show went quickly from the exit of Wil, to the Head of Household competition, which was a re-vamp of a past seasons comp.  The swamp theme made for a slippery slope up a hill to a barrel of liquid (the house-guests said it smelled like oil, but they wished it was moonshine) where they would “dip” a cup and carry it to a set of containers of three sizes.  There were also prizes that were to be awarded when each container was filled and the ball floating inside was removed for the win.  The largest container prize was HOH, the next size down was worth $10,000 in cold hard cash and the last and the smallest jug had to be filled for “safety”.  This was explained by Mrs. Julie Chen during the live show, but questioned when won, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Ashley is on her knees attempting a win… will she make it!?

Each contestant could begin filling the jugs in any which way they wanted, and as the live show came to completion it was more than evident which players were going for what prize.  The competition had many spills but in the end Brittney filled the small jug for safety, Mike “Boogie” filled the second jug for $10.000 and finally Shane was able to knock it out and fill the HOH jug and retrieve his ball first for the biggest prize and his own room for the week!

Congrats to Shane… who will he nominate… Stay tuned for more information and Tune in to CBS for the show Sunday!

Shane for the win!

The Have Have-Not Competition is Sour Citrus!

The BB 14 House guests are suited up and ready for squeezing.

The Have/Have Not competition was rough going this week.  All of the HG’s were able to participate expect for Ashley who has had some major back problems flare up (she seems to have recovered quickly)and she was able to choose to compete as shadow player of Franks in the Lemons and Lime Juicing competition.  I’m not quite sure how that was decided, but I imagine it was by drawing.

Anyway, the idea is to dip yourself in the pool of juice, and soak up as much as you can into your Lemon or Lime themed sponge, run over to the juicing station and be juiced by your fellow citrus teammates, one member of the team was also a farmer, and they were to change the hoses that collected the juices squeezed out of the sponge suits.

Joe gets squeezed of his juices by Frank.

Joe, even when on the block, seemed to be hanging out in the “juice” a good long time, while the others jumped on each other as if they were trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records number for the largest glass of lemon-aid ever!  The efforts paid off for team Lemon and the have-nots were doomed to a week of slop and America’s choice of two food items.

America voted and picked Candy Canes and Cod! Many flavors were given including Cherry, Strawberry and Butterscotch!

America was pretty kind and voted for the Cod and Candy Canes, and Big Brother even gave them a multitude of flavors to work with.  House guest Joe is a chef and is a chef in his home life.  of the have-nots so we should be in for some creative treats this week!

Stay Tuned for more updates as they happen!

Its time to Vote for the Have Nots!

America, it’s up to you to decide what the have-nots will be eating this week. Make your choice wisely!                          Go To CBS.com to VOTE!

Once again America its time to vote for the have-nots extra food choices for the week.  It has been a long hard week as far as game play goes.  After the big “twist and reset”  the week of respite from slop comes to a welcome end.   Its been an easy week on the house guests stomachs, and I for one can’t wait to see who will be have-nots and what they will be eating!  I had expected and really wanted house guest Joe to really come up with some great ideas and creative ways to prepare the slop, but sadly it has not happened quite yet.  He has made amazing slop burgers and slop tacos but we need to see some major creativity with these have not foods.

This weeks choices are as follows:

The choice is yours America! Vote on CBS.com for what foods the have-nots will be given  to supplement the dreaded Big Brother slop!

This weeks eviction is on Thursday at 8:00 PM and will be LIVE!  Will it be Frank the 4 time nominated unemployed 1st time contestant or Janelle “Jedi Janie”,  Big Brother alumni and favorite player of seasons past!  Even I am not sure  of who is going to be evicted this week.  Tune into the show tonight,  or check back on this blog for the eviction results!

Coaches Competition and The Vote is in!

Jedi Janey!

This week on Big Brother, Janelle won the Coaches Comp and saved Wil from eviction this week.  As each coach was eliminated from the competition a locker was opened revealing a task that each coach must perform.

Mike Boogie surprised no one and picked himself for the $6,000 prize. Would you have picked yourself for the biggest prize?

Mike “Boogie” picked the locker containing  $10,000, but he had to share pre-determined amounts with two other players.  He chose to give  Ian $3,000 and Jenn got $1,000, he kept $6,000 for himself.  Dan picked the option to trade players, and he declined to use it.  Britney picked the locker with “slop” in it, and had to choose the have-nots for the week.  Brittney chose Ian and Wil to endure slop this week.

The Vote is in!

America, you voted for the two foods that the have-nots would have available to eat along with slop and approved condiments and the winner is… (drum roll please!)

America, saw it fit to be pretty generous this week.  The have-nots are allowed to eat cereal and salmon in addition to the slop and approved condiments allowed by the rules of Big Brother (see earlier posts for lists of ingredients!)  This makes for pretty easy living in the BB house, but its been a rough start for the players so maybe they deserve a break.   Ian expressed his thanks to the viewers because he loves both of items on the table.  Ian has volunteered for slop all three weeks, and I think it might be playing a part and giving him a needed edge to keep off the chopping block.

Looks like a colorful Kebab in the BB house this week

Here is a simple recipe for salmon with any crunch cereal that could be used by any slop eating house guest.

Salmon with Crunchy Cereal Coating

1/2 cup Cereal (1/3 cup coarsely crushed)

1/4 cup butter, softened

1/4 cup snipped fresh basil

2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon grated lemon peel

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 teaspoon pepper

4 salmon fillets, skinned (about 6 oz. each)

Coarsely crush cereal. In a small bowl, combine butter, basil, Parmesan, lemon peel, garlic, and pepper; stir in cereal. Rinse fish; pat dry.  Measure the thickness of the fish for later heating times.  Place fish on the greased rack of a broiler pan. Spoon cereal mixture on top of fillets; pat gently to spread.

Bake at 400 degrees F for 4 to 6 minutes per 1/2-inch thickness or until fish flakes easily with a fork. For food safety, the internal temperature of the fish should be a minimum of 145 degrees F.

Serve hot and enjoy!

More from the BB house soon!

It is Game On! Your Chance Decide What’s being Served to the Have Not’s!

It’s game on in the Big Brother 14 house, and the first week of Have Nots is almost over.  In our first week of the house-guests experiencing what is in store for the  Have Nots this season.  In the first week, each have not was hand-picked by each of the coaches.  Boogie selected Ian after giving him “safety” for the week.  Britney picked Shane, Dan chose Danielle and Janelle named Ashley to be have nots for the week (this is new to this year!).  There was no America’s choice for the first week, but the first week is always a crude reminder of how difficult it can be to live on Big Brother Slop.

Shane reported in that he lost 12 pounds living on slop in the first week.  Ashley had complaints about her back, and Danielle’s face was imprinted with the grate marks from the metal slab she is attempting to get her beauty sleep on.  Life is tough in the Big Brother house, but it always seems worth it for a chance at $500,000 bucks!

The Big Brother 14 Have Nots Bedroom. Its 30% graded beds, scratchy blankets and hypnotic walls, this is not the bedroom you want to be sleeping in if you’re a contestant in the Big Brother House.

Hey America! It’s time to Vote!
